Introduction
E-waste includes anything with plugs, cords, and electronic components such as televisions, computers, and mobile phones. The initiative aims to create public awareness, social understanding, and responsibility toward managing E-waste, which can be hazardous if dumped in landfills as toxic substances can leach into the soil and water.
Project Overview
The E-waste campaign was conducted in cooperation with Enviroserve and focused on raising awareness and promoting responsible disposal practices for electronic waste. The project aimed to educate people about the environmental hazards of improper E-waste disposal and encourage sustainable recycling practices.
Method
- Impart knowledge and create awareness through online campaigns, social media outreach, and engaging activities.
- Develop strong partnerships with organizations that support E-waste recycling and management to gather industry support.
- Engage participation and enthusiasm from students and the community.
- Inspire responsibility, strategic thinking, and task management through communication.
Key Outcomes and Learnings
Challenges were faced during this initiative, particularly with collection from residences. However, with student participation and community support, the project successfully achieved its goal.
The initiative helped people gain better knowledge, understanding, and social responsibility regarding E-waste and allowed them to experience being part of a supportive community.
The key lesson learned was that together as a community, the issue of waste management can be addressed in all its forms, helping to combat climate change and work toward a sustainable future.
