
Introduction
The project aimed to raise awareness on campus about sustainability and waste reduction while promoting the reduction of CO₂ emissions through cycling as a mode of transport.
Project Overview
A clean-up activity around Al Wathba Lake, an ecologically diverse area, was organized. The project combined environmental responsibility with outdoor activities to maximize impact.
Method
Clean-up around the developed Al Wathba Lake, an ecologically diverse area including wetlands and farms, a campsite and cycle track which extends through the sand dunes. Activities included:
- Trash removal from around Al Wathba lake.
- Engaging in conservational awareness interactions with campsite users.
- Clean up of the 16 km Al Wathba Cycling Track.
- Discussions and interactions between ATA students and faculty surrounding the issue of environmental responsibility
Key Outcomes and Learnings
This activity resulted in collecting, sorting and removing 130 kg of solid waste from the area. Creating a fun combination of an environmental event with a sporting activity helped stimulate high community engagement.
